A storytelling passion
I have been passionate about nature and animals for as long as I can remember. My favourite book as a child was an old wildlife encyclopaedia, which I read dozens of times, with all the scientific names and words I didn't understand at that time. Between those covers I found  my passion for the natural world, and soon the passion for travelling followed, because I wanted to see the animals and places I was reading about. But it was impossible at that time. I was living in post-communist Romania and I was just a child with no money. So, I only travelled in my imagination, with the help of books. I even edited my own nature magazine, handwritten and illustrated with photos cut from wherever I could. There, in those moments, a dream was born... the one I live today.
I grew up in a small town at the footstep of the Bucegi Mountains, even though I was born somewhere near the sea. I went to the university in Târgoviște, the old Romanian capital, but as my passion for nature was greater than the one  for historical monuments, in 2003, I chose to move closer to nature, in  Brașov. It was the first really important decision in my life.
Even though I started my photographic journey somewhere around 1997, this passion went on a path of no return once I joined a small photo club in Brașov. Although I've tried other photography genres, I've stayed true to nature and travel photography. The step into the world of  documentary film came in 2012 when I directed my first short nature movies. Ever since the beginning of my passion for photography and film, I consider myself lucky because I have been able to fulfil my dream for travelling, through more than 30 countries so far, and I have been able to see many of the animals that I was hoping to see as a child.
Soon I realised that my passion is not only for the natural world, but also for storytelling. Through photography and documentary film I can do just that and I can inspire others to follow the same path. There is no better time to live in for someone that loves to tell stories about nature. Our voice can really be heard and our vision can make a difference in the way that we relate with the natural world.
I strongly believe that any nature photographer or filmmaker should be much more involved in leaving something behind. The most important thing we can do is support conservation projects that help the natural world. Since 2000, I have always been involved in these kinds of activities, at first as a simple volunteer in various organisations, then as a project manager for environmental projects, and now as a photographer and filmmaker for most of the important NGOs in my country. I worked alongside WWF Romania, Propark Foundation, Milvus Group, SOR (Romanian Ornithological Society) or Conservation Carpathia Foundation, but also with national and nature parks. Now  it is more important than ever to fight for protecting our biodiversity and our environment.
